DeFuniak Springs Wastewater System Improvements

DeFuniak Springs, FL was a recipient of an SRF loan through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The loan paid for the rehabilitation of 9 sewer lift stations throughout their system. Each station had new submersible pumps, rails, control panels, and float mechanisms installed. Additionally, emergency backup generators were installed at each station with either diesel or gas power depending upon the availability of natural gas at each site.

The project was procured through traditional Design-Bid-Build; however, there was a prequalification requirement to ensure that capable and qualified bidders were selected. GCU saved the City nearly $650,000 on their bid price versus the second-place bidder, by streamlining their schedule of bypass and wet well rehabilitation. In the end, the mechanical and electrical work associated with this project showcased GCU’s versatility as a General Contractor and proved that we are not “just a Trenchless expert”.
