Uniontown, AL
Gulf Coast Underground, LLC (GCU) is currently executing a large-scale sanitary sewer rehabilitation project for the City of Uniontown, Alabama, under the direction of Southern Engineering Solutions, Inc. The project is part of a major initiative to address aging infrastructure and excessive inflow and infiltration (I&I) affecting the city’s wastewater collection system. GCU’s scope includes cleaning of 55,837 linear feet of gravity sewer lines, PACP-certified pre- and post-CCTV inspection totaling 100,936 linear feet, and installation of 54,678 linear feet of cured- in-place pipe (CIPP). Lateral rehabilitation is also a significant part of the project, with 1,291 service laterals televised and 1,291 lateral liners installed. Additionally, 1,607.75 vertical feet of manhole structures have been rehabilitated using spray-applied structural coatings.
Work is being performed in active, live-flow conditions and includes numerous easement areas, residential neighborhoods, and high-traffic corridors. GCU has managed extensive bypass pumping operations, coordinated traffic control across multiple work zones, and implemented site-specific erosion control measures. Crews have operated concurrently to meet production goals, minimize disruption, and adapt to dynamic field conditions. Inspection and installation data is submitted in PACP/MACP format with GIS-compatible files to support long-term system mapping and planning.
As the project progresses, GCU continues to collaborate closely with the design engineer and city representatives to prioritize critical segments, adjust to unforeseen field conditions, and maintain schedule performance. Field supervisors communicate daily with the data team to ensure all records are complete, accurate, and properly formatted. The Uniontown rehabilitation project highlights GCU’s capacity to execute complex trenchless programs across diverse terrain while maintaining a strong focus on quality, documentation, and responsiveness to municipal needs. GCU’s team leveraged years of trenchless rehabilitation experience to proactively manage shifting site logistics and maintain steady field production. In addition, the project’s collaborative data-driven approach enabled the City of Uniontown to make informed decisions throughout the rehabilitation process.
