Gulf Coast Underground (GCU), LLC performed comprehensive smoke testing project services for over 71,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer as part of a system-wide inflow and infiltration (I&I) evaluation in Union City, Tennessee. The goal of the project was to identify structural defects, illegal connections, and other sources of extraneous flow contributing to system overload and potential sanitary sewer overflows.
GCU’s team delivered the project on a fast-tracked schedule while coordinating closely with local officials. All testing was conducted using industry-standard practices, with a strong emphasis on public safety, neighborhood outreach, and accurate data collection. Observed defects were documented with GIS-based mapping and photographic evidence to support future rehabilitation efforts.
To ensure clarity and reliability of the collected data, GCU implemented strict quality control measures during field activities and post-processing. Detailed reports were developed to summarize findings, providing Union City with the actionable insight needed to prioritize repairs and support funding applications. GCU’s experience with I&I reduction strategies, paired with our technical capabilities, allowed us to complete the project efficiently and with minimal community disruption.
The results of the testing will guide Union City’s planning for targeted repairs and infrastructure improvements. This project reflects GCU’s ability to deliver high-quality field investigation services that support long-term system performance, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
