GCU, LLC successfully completed the CIPP IV Stormwater Rehabilitation project for the City of Knoxville, addressing critical stormwater infrastructure in need of renewal. The project focused on trenchless rehabilitation of corrugated metal storm drains that had reached the end of their service life, with a total of 1,290 linear feet restored using cured-in-place pipe (CIPP). Alongside the lining, CCTV inspection and cleaning were performed to document existing conditions, support installation, and verify the final quality of the rehabilitation work.
The scope included rehabilitation of large-diameter storm drains located within highly trafficked areas of Knoxville. Work was performed in urban corridors, requiring careful planning and coordination with City staff to limit disruptions to businesses, residents, and traffic flow. By utilizing trenchless technology, GCU minimized surface disturbance and avoided costly and disruptive open-cut excavation.
Special attention was given to the condition of CMP storm drains, many of which exhibited corrosion and deformation. GCU employed advanced water-cured CIPP techniques to structurally restore these assets, ensuring proper hydraulic capacity and long-term durability. CCTV verification was conducted following each installation to confirm quality and compliance with the project requirements.
The successful completion of this project demonstrates GCU’s ability to deliver stormwater rehabilitation solutions that extend system life, reduce future maintenance, and support municipal stormwater management goals. By combining trenchless methods with detailed inspection and documentation, GCU provided the City of Knoxville with cost-effective improvements that enhance system reliability and resilience.
