Gulf Coast Underground (GCU) completed a comprehensive sanitary sewer rehabilitation project at Barksdale Air Force Base, addressing both structural defects and aging infrastructure across multiple service areas. The project began with over 15,000 linear feet of NASSCO-compliant CCTV inspection, used to evaluate existing pipeline conditions and inform a targeted rehabilitation plan that prioritized trenchless solutions wherever possible.
Following review and coordination with the engineering team, GCU installed over 7,500 linear feet of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) to restore mainline sections without excavation. Additionally, 12 laterals were lined using CIPP technology, and 12 manholes totaling approximately 320 vertical feet were fully rehabilitated using corrosion-resistant lining systems. Crews also completed select excavation point repairs based on severity and access needs. Prior to installation, GCU removed intruding taps and heavy debris using advanced robotic cutters and precision cleaning equipment.
The project utilized GCU’s full in-house capabilities, including wet-out services and a fleet of boiler trucks, CCTV vans, combo vac/jetter units, a Schwalm robotic cutter, and refrigerated trailers. Materials were stored and transported under temperature-controlled conditions to ensure liner quality throughout staging and curing. All work was performed within the operational limits of an active military base, requiring daily access coordination, security compliance, and sequencing to minimize impact to base operations.
GCU maintained a strong safety record throughout the project and delivered all services on time and within budget. This work underscores GCU’s ability to provide large-scale sewer rehabilitation in high-security environments through efficient, low-disruption methods.
